Comenius 2007-2008

Mobility to Gotheborg

By Andrea Duchi (15 – 18 May 2008)

The "safety and health project" is now in Gotheborg. The meeting with teachers of three different countries, Sweden, Finland, Germany is going to start .The s.a.s aircraft is landing on time. At 11.30 Dan Hilmermann a Swedish teacher brings me to his school where I have a first meeting with Swedish staff.

The Berckengymnasiet is a vocational school specialized to train the students in transport and building and in horse driving. The Swedish colleagues make me very comfortable and

I have my first experience in the information technology class where I can follow a lesson with Swedish students. In the afternoon Susanne brings me down town and tells me about Gothenburg history and shows me the most interesting places to visit.

The second day I went to the other school located in the countryside.

The area is very beautiful and it’s here where there are courses to become riding horses teachers and bus-lorry drivers.

I can follow a lesson in mathematics with Bertil(the teacher).

In the afternoon I can have my freetime to visit some Gotheborg areas I had not seen before.

In the evening two colleagues arrive from Italy with three students.

We are all ready for the meetings! The following day we gather to see power point production by students about safety in the workplace and the rules coneccted with the laws from the different countries.

But I have to describe this episode because I was really surprised : All members of the school, headmaster, teachers students before starting the classroom are trained for fifteen minutes of physical exercises to the rhythm of disco music on the square in front of the school!

They say that it is intended to get fit before starting their daily commitments. During the meeting the students introduced through the projection of power point how schools are teaching to make students aware of safety standards in the workplace and the different regulations.

In Finland for example there is a specific course, with issue of license, which certifies skills acquired and is a compulsory in order to get in touch with the work market. It’s a common opinion that all member states of the European community should also issue a sort of " safety certificate "with the national diploma". On Friday afternoon, a Swedish colleague who is also an official guide of the Goteborg municipality shows us the most significant historical places and tells us about the city history from its founding to today.

On Saturday morning we met for the last meeting where we discussed about the organization of the next meeting to be held in Milan at the Maxwell institute. After the meeting, the headmaster and some of his colleagues made us spend an afternoon on some islands in the North Sea.

In one of them we had a nice fish dinner. It was a beautiful day even though the coast is beaten by the wind. We appreciated it a lot! We all meet again in Milan in November.

Sunday is all ready for departure. It has been a good experience and students are very satisfied because they have been able to improve their English knowledge and have an interesting experience with their German and Swedish peers.

The Milan city lights will appear from the aircraft windows.

We are at home again.

Comenius project meeting in Lubeck

November 2007

The third Comenius project meeting was organized by Friedrich List Schule in Lübeck, Germany by the German coordinator Gudrun Mollnitz and her colleagues who kindly welcomed the teachers and the students of the partner schools from 29th November to 2nd December.

The Italian team was composed of the Principal ing. Giuseppe Sammartino who was paying a study visit about the organization of the German educational dual system , two teachers the Italian coordinator and the safety responsible, two students from the aeronautical department who had previously hosted the Finnish students from Leonardo project last March.

The four teams- Finnish, German, Italian and Swedish spent 4 days first of all learning about the organization of the German educational system, visiting the different labs and introducing their Power Point Presentations about institutions in charge of safety in the different countries. Even the students were involved in the explanation of the people and institutions in charge of safety in companies and in the airports( the Italian ones).

On Friday afternoon after the PP presentations all the members of the project were welcomed by the 2nd Town President  Reinhold Hiller at the Town Hall who told them the links among Lübeck the main German harbour on the Baltic Sea and the rest of Europe dating back to the Middle Ages.

On Saturday afternoon one German colleague Henning Rohland, teacher of business and politics organized a walking tour of Lübeck for the European guests explaining the history, all traditions and habits of the capital of the Anseatic league.

On Saturday evening Friedrich List Schule offered an official dinner to the European guests at a typical restaurant "Schiffergesellschaft" meeting place of all skippers who had previously sailed all over the seas.

During the project meeting the coordinator Juha-Ville Makinen pointed out the importance of the mobilities, in fact the German teachers will visit the partner schools in Finland ,Italy and Sweden in September – October 2008, the Finnish teachers will do the same visiting Italy and the other countries in March2008 , the Italian teachers will spend 1 exchange week in Goteborg in May 2008, in Lubeck in September- October 2008 and 1 week in Vantaa in March, April 2009. The Swedish will decide the next mobilities with their coordinator the next weeks.

Mobility means improving our personal know-how, exchanging ideas for better teaching methodologies and creating strict links of cooperation and friendship among teachers and students all over Europe.
